Housing & Homelessness

Homelessness is a stubborn problem across the UK. Lack of social housing, high house prices, steep rental and other living costs mean many are struggling to find and maintain a home of their own. The situation for young people is especially tough. Family breakdown remains the number one cause of youth homelessness. Provision of supported accommodation and supported lodgings is of vital importance.

The Benjamin Foundation is a core member of Every Youth, a national partnership of charities dedicated to ending youth homelessness. We provide a wide range of housing options for those aged 16 to 30, from 24/7 supported accommodation through to affordable move on housing, plus various specialist services. A range of extras are also on offer, including education and employment support, mental health support and Tenancy Transition Support.

Housing with support for 16-25 year olds

Our accommodation-based support services ensure young people are housed safely while they develop the skills needed to thrive and move on to live independently. They cater for young people with support needs who are homeless or at risk of becoming so.

Housing with tenancy support for those aged 18 to 30 (Anchorage & Pottergate)

Using our own properties and working with private sector landlords, we set up shared housing tenancies for young people as the next step towards independent living. This makes renting and running a house affordable for young people ready to move on. Light touch support is also provided.

Housing for Unaccompanied Asylum-seeking Children (UASC)

Our Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) accommodation service is based in Suffolk. It is tailored specifically for young people aged 16 to 18 who arrived in the UK seeking asylum or those aged 18+ who are care leavers awaiting a Home Office decision as to whether they can remain in the UK.

Supported lodgings for 16 to 18 year olds

Covering Norfolk and Suffolk, our supported lodgings service comprises a network of Hosts, trained and supported by us to look after young people in their own homes. We call this service Heart and Home.

Housing for children in care and care leavers (Suffolk)

We provide supervised accommodation for young people with high, specialist needs who require an individually tailored package of support to help them transition from a children’s home or foster care towards independent living.

Affordable Accommodation for 18 to 25 year olds

Future Builders provides young people opportunities to learn construction skills as they work on renovating houses that become their homes, plus the training needed to secure an apprenticeship or full-time work.

Sustainable Housing Partnership service

A service helping people in West Norfolk and Kings Lynn. It focuses on tenancy support, helping 18+ singles, couples and families to successfully maintain a tenancy or find suitable accommodation.
