Move On Support

Rent Deposit Scheme & Tenancy Transition Service

The Rent Deposit Scheme (RDS) helps young people age 18-25 who have previously faced homelessness and are now ready to live independently to gain access to the private rented or social housing sectors.

The scheme can help you to overcome the financial barriers to independent living, offers financial advice and dedicated support to help build your life skills and confidence. It benefits both landlords and tenants and has been made possible thanks to our partnership with EveryYouth.

The RDS and Tenancy Transition Service (TTS) provide young people with the practical, one-to-one support they need to source, secure and sustain a tenancy. Once the RDS has helped the YP source their rental, check the Tenancy Agreement and pay their deposit, the Tenancy Transition workers will visit them and help set them up with their utility accounts, access any benefits they may be entitled to and help mediate any teething problems regarding the property with the landlord or letting agency. They can also signpost to further services such as health service providers, and our Job Coach for further education and training. The TTS can only be accessed if the YP has been supported by the RDS. In order to be eligible for the scheme the YP will need to be:

  • Aged 18-25, single, couples, flat sharers or families.
  • First tenancy or getting back into tenancy after homelessness/ financial difficulty caused a change in circumstances.
  • In a position to financially and independently maintain the tenancy they take on once we have supported with the deposit and helped with the transition into their new home. Our team provides budgeting support.

Both the TTS and RDS sit under the wider umbrella of the Housing Transition Team. Both services under the Housing Transition Team are funded by EveryYouth and work closely with parallel projects across the country.
