Developed by Howard Glasser, The Nurtured Heart Approach® allows us to turn the most challenging situations toward success by focusing on individual skills and qualities and promoting our ‘inner wealth’. The approach is used in all our services with very positive results.

At the core of the Approach are ‘The 3 Stands’ – All three are necessary promises that we must be determined to keep if we are to create nurturing habits and make big changes:

  1. Absolute NO – Resolutely not putting any energy into mistakes made, wrong-doing or negative behaviours.
  2. Absolute YES – Making a big deal of detailing any and every great quality, success or positive behaviour.
  3. Clarity of rules, and consequences that are known and agreed; fair, restorative, short and meaningful.

Julie, is one of our Certified Nurtured Heart Approach® (NHA) Trainers. Here she shares her passion for the approach and how we have moved our training and support for families online during the pandemic:

“It’s fair to say, I am absolutely passionate about The Nurtured Heart Approach®. It started in 2013 when I had the privilege of being part of a team within The Benjamin Foundation who took part in the organisation of an International Certified Training Intensive course at Norwich Cathedral, which we also attended and became NHA certified Trainers. It inspired and transformed the way I parented my then teenage children and my way of working with children in schools and I saw incredible transformations in the children and myself. Over the next few years, I co-delivered a variety of training workshops to colleagues, parents and teachers along with some of our other trainers. In 2016, I attended another Certified training as an Advanced Trainer, in 2018 trained as a NHA Mentor and in 2019, myself and a colleague had the honour of presenting at the NHA World summit in the USA on our work within the organisation and in schools.

In 2020, Covid-19 happened, live trainings were no longer possible and at the end of last year, I was asked if I could deliver some online trainings.

So, with excitement and trepidation, fuelled by my passion for NHA and somewhat elementary IT skills, I spent a couple of weeks experimenting online with colleagues, until the training courses were ready for delivery.

So far, I have delivered five weekly induction/refresher courses for our own staff and the first two weeks of a six week parent course.

They all participate really well in the experiential exercises and discussions and, to my great relief and joy, have sent some wonderful responses after the courses which speak for themselves:”
