Sleep Out is our flagship annual fundraising event. Each November, we invite local businesses and individuals to take up the challenge of joining one of our organised Sleep Out events in Norwich or Ipswich to raise money to help us prevent youth homelessness by spending one night outside so others don’t have to.
This year’s Norwich Sleep Out takes place in the car park of Norwich City Football Club on Thursday 14th November. Joining the event for the first time is Martin Reynolds from Martin Reynolds Social Media. We caught up with him to hear why he wanted to be involved, what he’s expecting from the event and how he will be using social media to boost his fundraising:
Martin works with social media every day, supporting businesses to increase their engagement and brand across their social media platforms so it seems very apt that he first heard about our Sleep Out event through Facebook. Having never taken part in anything like Sleep Out before, he was inspired to be one of the first to register for this year’s Norwich event.
“I have wanted to do something to help the homeless for some time.” Martin says. “I think it will give me a good insight in to some of the challenges they have and hopefully make me more sympathetic to their plight and help more in the future.”
Taking part with his brother, Steve, the pair are hoping to raise £500 – of course through the use of social media and sharing his Virgin Money Giving fundraising page online.
Previous participants of Sleep Out have found online fundraising platforms a great help when raising money for their Sleep Out challenge. Easy to share on social media pages, such as Facebook and Twitter, donations flow straight to our charity, and donations eligible for Gift Aid are automatically processed too. Using social media before, during and after the event to update friends and followers also helps with fundraising. Features such as video and Facebook Live help to engage audiences too.
Martin continues: “After Sleep Out, I think that I will be tired but it will be satisfying. I know people who have taken part in previous Sleep Out events and they really enjoyed it. It is just a start and I know that I need and will want to help more. I’m looking forward to it.”
