The New Year is well and truly underway and we as reach ‘Blue Monday’ on 20th January, which many people describe as the most depressing day of the year, we were thrilled to share the exciting news that Sleep Out 2019 has raised over £100,000!
It is thanks to the fantastic efforts of those who took part in the Norwich and Ipswich Sleep Out events last November that the record breaking amount has been raised to help us bring hope, opportunity, stability and independence to local young people who are going through tough times.
Money raised from Sleep Out 2019 has already enabled:
- Young people in our accommodation centre in North Walsham shared a Christmas meal together, which was described as a “God-send” and “a beautiful day with smiley faces all round.”
- Supported by our staff, 11 residents at one of our accommodation centres in King’s Lynn also went out for a Christmas meal together. Something they wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to do. They all thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Two of the residents struggle with social anxiety and this was a huge step forward for them with one of them stating “I wouldn’t have been able to do this a month ago.”
One of our colleagues says: “Christmas can be a very difficult time for our young people and being able to do all of the above made it more bearable, enjoyable and special for 100 young people in Norfolk and Suffolk. I experienced first-hand the look on their faces and the emotions they felt knowing that someone they have never met before actually cared enough to sleep out and raise money for us.”
As 2020 progresses, we will continue to share news of how your fundraising is helping our charity.
Each year, the support from participants and spirit at Norwich and Ipswich Sleep Out never fails to amaze us. We are truly humbled and grateful for everyone connecting with Sleep Out in the way that they have. We are incredibly proud of Sleep Out and the impact that it has on local people – we hope those who took part in and supported the events are too.
