Embracing Forest School Learning at Ditchingham Day Nursery
Forest School is a recent trend in learning which has captured the hearts of many schools and pre-schools across the country. Ditchingham Day Nursery, our pre-school on the Norfolk-Suffolk border is no exception and now offers regular opportunities for children to have hands-on learning experiences in the surrounding woodland and natural environment.
Early Years Practitioner and Forest School Leader, Amy Phillips says.
“Our children love the Forest School scheme – the sessions are always in demand and it is amazing to see what they get out of it.”
Forest School participants are encouraged to build a positive relationship with the natural environment around them through regular sessions. The process of learning in the outside environment and building confidence in young children is something Amy feels incredibly passionate about and the thrill of exploring the great outdoors was a natural progression for Ditchingham Day Nursery with its stunning rural location and woodland and fields on the doorstep.
Amy trained as a Level Three Forest School Leader in 2016 and she is very enthusiastic about this opportunity for the children.
“We are giving children the chance to see seasonal change. It might sound simple but with so much indoor technology these days, some children may not experience the great outdoors in so much detail.
“Forest School captures this opportunity. I would deliver the sessions every day if I could!”
There have also been opportunities for parents to enjoy the woodland environment, something Ditchingham Day Nursery would be hopeful of offering again in the future.
Forest School learning has been described as an inspirational process; it is one that Ditchingham Day Nursery has truly embraced and the results can be seen in the joy that it brings.
