Before the latest lockdown restrictions were announced by the Government, we held a training day for some of the young people supported by The Benjamin Foundation. Kim Wood, Employability Officer explains more:

“On November 4th we held a Luxury Manicure training day at our Anchorage service in Great Yarmouth for young people within The Benjamin Foundation. The day was delivered by Solis Nail and Beauty Training, who are based in Norwich but also offer outreach training.

“We decided to offer this training as some of our young people had shown interest in a career in beauty therapies. We know that this industry, under normal non-Covid 19 restrictions, gives great opportunities for young people to find work and even run their own business once they have gained the right qualifications.

“Six young people attended the training and passed the course. During the training we ensured all participants’ safety by keeping them within their bubbles (sharing the same accommodation), being sat a safe distance apart, wearing the correct PPE at all times, sanitising all equipment correctly and using hand sanitiser at regular intervals.”

Corinne from Solis Nail and Beauty Training says:

“Solis Nail and Beauty Training were thrilled to provide a luxury manicure course for The Benjamin Foundation. Our course covered everything from Health and Safety, how to start your own nail and beauty business, GDPR, COSHH, contra indications including nail disease and disorder and of course theory and practical training to perform a luxury manicure.

Once the young people settled into the course we had an absolutely fantastic day with everyone taking part in both the theory and practical training. Several young people were apprehensive about attending but all confirmed they were so glad they had come and even asked if they could do more of this type of course. A great day had by all – thank you for inviting us to deliver the course.”

Our young people said:

“The course was great but the tutors and atmosphere made it awesome!”

“I learned a lot and enjoyed having a laugh.”

It was nice to get out and try something new.”

“Getting out the house, meeting new people was great, having a laugh and gaining a new qualification in something I’m interested in.”

A huge thank you to Solis Nail and Beauty Training for providing this opportunity.

It demonstrates the strength of the service and the care and compassion of the team and Hosts who make the service such a success.
