Hughes Electrical Cyclists Charity Ride

A group of seven cyclists from East Anglia are taking to the saddle this summer and riding around 450 miles in just five days to raise money for The Benjamin Foundation.

The ride is the brainchild of serial fund raiser Nigel Jeavons, a senior sales person with Hughes Electrical in Hunstanton, who has once again persuaded his colleagues to help with his third fundraising charity event.

“I originally considered cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End but soon realised it would be too time consuming,” said Nigel Jeavons. “So, I looked at a route taking in Hughes most northerly, westerly, southerly and easterly branches and concluded it could be done in five days.

“Then it was a case of persuading my colleagues to take up the challenge – we now have seven taking part plus a good friend of mine, Eddie Herbert.

“We will be setting off from Preston, furthest north/west store, on 6 June, making our way to Rayleigh, furthest south, before finishing in Lowestoft, furthest east on 10 June.

“As we are based throughout East Anglia each rider will be responsible for their own training regime and we know we will be tackling some pretty arduous rides, particularly when we cross the Peak District!”

Money raised will be going to our charity, supporting children and young people in Norfolk and Suffolk who are experiencing challenges in their lives, including young carers and young people who may be at risk of homelessness.

“We know what a valuable job the charity does every day, so we are delighted to support it and have set ourselves a fundraising target of £5000,” said Nigel Jeavons.

Added Kirsty Pitcher, Chief Operating Officer at the charity, “A huge thank you to the team from Hughes Electrical, we are grateful for this support – money raised can make such a difference to help vulnerable young people in Norfolk and Suffolk who are going through difficult times to finally feel hopeful of a better future.

“We wish the Hughes team the very best of luck with their cycle ride and fundraising!”

Those taking part in the challenge are: Eddie Herbert, Adam Harper support vehicle driver, Mark Coleby, Malcolm Tuff, Chris Thornton, Jack Phelps, John Scofield and Nigel Jeavons.
