Flight For Youth

Help us build a kaleidoscope of butterflies to celebrate 25 years of The Benjamin Foundation and raise £125,000 to bring hope, opportunity, stability and independence to the vulnerable people we support.

Flight For Youth is a fundraising campaign to support and fund the work of The Benjamin Foundation. Flight for Youth will transform The Walled Garden at Holkham Hall and The Assembly House in Norwich into a kaleidoscope of butterflies, with an art installation designed by students from Norwich University of the Arts. The campaign has been generously supported by companies across Norfolk and our thanks to each and every one of them, in particular our headline sponsor, Norwich High School for Girls.

What is Flight For Youth?

Flight For Youth is a fundraising campaign to support and fund the work of The Benjamin Foundation. Flight for Youth will transform Holkham Hall and The Assembly House in Norwich into a kaleidoscope of butterflies, with an art installation designed by students from Norwich University of the Arts.

The Benjamin Foundation is an independent charity operating in Norfolk and Suffolk. We bring hope, opportunity, stability and independence by supporting people through the challenges that life may bring them, including homelessness, childcare, bullying and abuse. Our staff team is over 200 strong and each person plays their part in helping around 2,500 children, young people and families each year.

How can I help?

You can be a part of the installation and help support the work of The Benjamin Foundation by purchasing a butterfly. Your butterfly will then be included in one of our two unique art installations, which will be available for the public to view throughout the summer, before being returned to you as a keepsake for your part in this exciting campaign.

Where does the money go?

Youth Support & Activities

We provide positive activities for young people who have limited opportunities in life – perhaps they’re caring for a parent or come from a socially deprived area. A chance to escape their day-to-day pressures and be a child again is vital.

Housing and Homelessness

We provide young people with a safe, stable home and the skills they need so they can leave us and forge an independent life. In 2017 we provided over 40,000 safe nights accommodation for vulnerable young adults.

Emotional Wellbeing support

We help children and young people to talk about their feelings in order to build their self-confidence and resilience. We also help families to cope with situations which include physical and mental health issues and family dynamics.

Childcare

We provide childcare suitable for all children from just a few months to 13 years of age in safe, supportive environments, which gives parents peace-of-mind.

We want to end youth homelessness and we’re tackling the problem locally by providing a home and support to over 100 vulnerable young people at any time. £25 could buy a new duvet, pillows and covers for a young person when they arrive at one of our accommodation centres with few possessions of their own.

We deliver a range of services to support children, young people and families facing challenges. This includes helping children and young people to talk about their feelings in order to build self-confidence, resilience and helping them to recognise their ‘inner-wealth’. £95 pays for 3 sessions of emotional wellbeing support for a young person. We delivered 12,446 sessions of emotional wellbeing support to young people in local schools in the 2017/18 academic year.

We provide positive activities for young people with limited opportunities in life. Perhaps they’re caring for a relative or they come from a socially deprived area. In 2017/18 351 young carers attended groups sessions in Norfolk. £500 will pay for a residential trip for a group of young people to give them the chance to escape their day-to-day pressures and be a child again.

If you would like to make a donation, please contact Colin Lang MBE on colin.lang@benjaminfoundation.co.uk.

Not only do we give vulnerable young people a safe and stable home, but support them with the skills they need so they can leave us and forge an independent life, and help them with their training, education and career.

In 2017/18 our Job Coach supported 127 young people to successfully move into employment, education and training. £1,000 could buy chefs whites and equipment to enable 5 young people we’ve supported to start building a career, gain confidence and news skills by beginning a catering course.

If you would like to make a donation, please contact Colin Lang MBE on colin.lang@benjaminfoundation.co.uk.

Our work keeps vulnerable young people off the streets and helps prevent the local homelessness problem growing £10,000 could pay the rent deposit for private accommodation for 10 young people who are ready to move on from our accommodation centres.

If you would like to make a donation, please contact Colin Lang MBE on colin.lang@benjaminfoundation.co.uk.

The charity’s silver anniversary is a wonderful opportunity to create even more awareness of the work we do in the region, as well as generate much-needed funds. So we have decided to focus the celebrations around a dramatic art installation for the public to enjoy, featuring, of course, our much-loved and well recognised colourful butterfly!
