Almost 150 trees donated by The Woodland Trust planted in under two hours

Ditchingham Day Nursery hosted a tree-planting event for the community and families on Saturday 1st April. The nursery hosted the session to mark the one-year anniversary of acquiring their Forest School site.

20 people, including staff, volunteers and families from the nursery, supported the session, which saw almost 150 trees donated by The Woodland Trust planted in under two hours.

James Ward, Early Years Practitioner, and one of the Forest School Leads at Ditchingham Day Nursery and organiser of the tree planting event says: “In a time where there is so much emphasis and importance around the issue of climate change, one of the easiest things we can do is plant a tree. Just one tree can support hundreds of species of wildlife and help to sustain habitats.”

James continues: “Ditchingham Day Nursery is proud to deliver Forest School sessions to local children and their families to promote holistic development and build connections with nature. We are grateful to everybody who helped us at the tree planting event. There were plenty of smiles and comments that it felt really good to give back to the Earth.”

Ditchingham Day Nursery provides childcare to children aged 3 months to 4 years in a safe, supportive environment, which gives their parents peace of mind. Rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in February 2023, the nursery offers a full day care service in South Norfolk near Bungay. They cover all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage with activities planned around the interests of the children. This includes regular Forest School sessions in the adjoining woodland, which promote children’s holistic development and helps them to build a connection with nature, communities and each other. The nursery also embeds the Curiosity Approach to inspire awe and wonder in early childhood.

James adds: “We were really pleased to offer the tree-planting session, because it is important that the next generation understand climate change and know how easy it is to make changes, like simply planting a tree.”
