A decade of supporting the local community

Our Furniture Store in Dereham is marking ten years of supporting the local community with a special discount day on Saturday 25th September.

Located on the Rashes Green Industrial Estate, the store has been helping local children and young people with challenges in their lives by selling pre-loved, good quality furniture and household items for a decade. This includes dining sets, sofas, bedroom furniture, desks, as well as new beds and white goods.

Money raised helps our work to prevent youth homelessness by giving local young people a safe home and support, providing positive activities and youth clubs for young people, and emotional wellbeing support in schools and local communities. This work helps local children and young people to finally feel hopeful of a better future.

The store has seen a wide variety of household items donated over the years to The Benjamin Foundation’s vital work in Norfolk and Suffolk.

Kimberley Thorne has been a huge part of the store’s decade of support for their local community. Initially starting as a volunteer, she is now Store Manager and loves every minute.

The best thing about The Benjamin Foundation Furniture Stores is the great quality and selection of the items which are kindly donated by the public.” Kimberley explains.

Her highlights from the past ten years include the more unique items, such as an Orkney chair, locating the maker to learn more about it and its worth, the wide variety of retro items which are often donated, but also being able to provide crisis furniture to families in urgent need during the pandemic lockdowns.

“I enjoy it so much as I have been a part of the shop from day one.” Kimberley continues. “From back when it was an empty warehouse and we had to make it into a shop, to building up the customer base and social media followers over the years, to seeing the store it is today; it really is a big part of my life. It’s great knowing that every time you sell something, it benefits local young people supported by The Benjamin Foundation.”

By way of celebration in-store on Saturday 25th September, Kimberley and her team are looking forward to welcoming customers to enjoy 10% off purchases of second-hand items (excludes new beds and new white goods) between 10am – 4pm.

Kimberley adds:We are proud to be a part of our local community, providing a valuable local resource and supporting local people. We should all be able to help each other in life whatever way we can.”
