Meet Up is our Youth and Family Centre on Thetford’s Redcastle Furze Estate. Funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, its main aim is to provide leisure activity and support services for young people and the local community. It enables them to access provisions in what feels to them to be a safe and informal environment and make positive choices and changes where necessary.
As for everyone, the ongoing pandemic means we have moved some of our services online. Keen to ensure our half-term activities can involve the whole family, we set up a variety of online events for all of our Meet Up members and their families to enjoy.
One of these was a Sound bath with Sally Collins Sound on Zoom. A sound bath provides an opportunity for relaxation and some time out during stressful times. Sally was fantastic at guiding participants through the relaxation with gentle sounds and feelings from a variety of instruments from chimes to drums to calm busy minds. It was an hour of pure relaxation and being able to take this time to focus on our own wellbeing.
Our families all enjoyed it, describing it as “wonderfully relaxing” and adding that, one of the effects of lockdown may be that we have forgotten some of the auditory and sensory experiences of the outdoors?
With sound baths being beneficial to counter some of the effects of stress and anxiety and depression, Sally described the session as “an hour away from the world” and we are grateful to her for enabling some of our Meet Up families to do just that.
