As the Benjamin Foundation's CEO, I am accountable to the Board of Trustees for the leadership and performance of the organisation. My responsibilities include ensuring the Foundation is financially sound and sustainable, able to discharge its legal obligations, has a long term strategy for continued development and progression and, above all else, delivers its services effectively and efficiently in the best interests of children, young people and vulnerable adults. In addition, it is my responsibility to ensure that the Benjamin Foundation's values, ethos and culture are promoted at every opportunity by role modelling both within the organisation and when representing it with service users, partners and commissioners.
Having grown up in Sussex and completed my Geography degree in Reading, I moved to Kent where I trained and qualified as an accountant in practice in Tunbridge Wells, before choosing to progress my career in the public sector. I spent two years in finance roles with the Tunbridge Wells Health Authority and Kent & Sussex Weald NHS Trust after which I moved into local government with North Norfolk District Council (NNDC). In my 17 years with NNDC, I was lucky enough to fulfil a number of very different roles that enabled me to develop a range of new skills and knowledge in preparation for increasingly senior leadership roles. They included Head of Revenues & Benefits and Head of Organisational Development, which culminated in six years as a Strategic Director.
In 2012, I re-entered the NHS as Associate Director of Finance with Norfolk Community Health & Care NHS Trust, where I have been responsible for a portfolio of services including Finance, IT, Estates & Facilities and Procurement, helping the organisation work towards achieving Foundation Trust status. I have recently completed the NHS Leadership Academy Award in Executive Healthcare Leadership, which has been excellent preparation for the demands of the role of CEO.
Outside of work I am married with a teenage son and daughter. I get my energy through running and cycling in Norfolk's quiet lanes and, when time permits, I enjoy playing hockey (albeit badly!). My relaxation is achieved through historical novels, movies and the occasional trip to the theatre.
