Our Furniture Store: Quality at Affordable Prices

Part of the work we do in Norfolk and Suffolk is through our furniture stores in Norwich, Dereham and Holt. Open to the public, we sell good quality used furniture and electrical goods. Our Re-use shop at the Foxhall Household Waste Recycling Centre in Ipswich sells a wide range of items which have been donated by people across the county.

All of our stores take in donated items and the profits they make by selling them helps to fund our other work.

Chris Berks, Manager of the Norwich Furniture Store explains the importance of Ben’s Social Enterprise to our charity.

“We sell good quality, affordable furniture to the public.” Chris explains.

“Our days involve serving customers, arranging the store and making our displays look attractive. As we also carry out deliveries and collections, there’s a lot of loading and unloading of the van and cleaning and repairing some donated items to make them ready for sale.”

The store, based on Oak Street is just five minutes from the centre of Norwich and has a vast array of furniture and household items for sale, including sofas, beds, cabinets, tables and chairs to name just a few.

“What surprises customers when they visit us is the quality and cleanliness of what we sell.” Chris continues.

With days often filled with collecting furniture from local people who wish to donate items they no longer require, Chris reflects on some of the more unique pieces that have been on sale since the store opened in 2013.

“The most unusual item I can recall was a slate snooker table. It was enormous!”

Money raised through our furniture stores is fed back to our charity to help support the work we do with children, young people and families in Norfolk and Suffolk.

“We also work closely with John Lewis through the Reuse Network.” Chris explains. “They often are able to donate second-hand sofas to us, which is a huge help to our store as these are very appealing items.”

Chris says that the highlights for him are the team he works with and seeing his customers happy.

“Visitors to the store frequently comment they are so glad they found us. We always have good quality items available at affordable prices so I would encourage people to pay us a visit. You will always receive a warm welcome and you’d be surprised at what you might find.”
