In Good Company with Butterfly Butties

Butterfly Butties Social Action lunch club launched in King's Lynn in August 2017 as part of the In Good Company Campaign and the #iwill pledge. The result of the young people at our Butterfly House accommodation centre wanting to support their community, Butterfly Butties is making a difference by offering a weekly lunch club to reduce loneliness and isolation.

Seven young people have volunteered with four long-term volunteers with the benefits being building community relations between the generations, increasing skills and confidence and a reduction of loneliness and isolation.

The lunch club initiated as a simple group where young people and senior citizens could come together and enjoy a friendly chat and refreshments. It has developed into a hub of skills development and weekly meetings with a hot meals being prepared and cooked by the young volunteers, who have reported an increase in confidence, self-esteem and their own development. They enjoy spending time with others and feel the benefits are endless.

Relaunching the lunch club at Providence Street Community Centre has been a significant turning point for Butterfly Butties. It is now open to all and they have a community garden onsite, with the aim that fruit and vegetables will be produced for the lunch club during 2018.

If you would like to join Butterfly Butties in 2018 to enjoy a hot meal and a friendly chat, or support the venture by volunteering or donating kitchen equipment, such as large pans, please get in touch jess.dillon@benjaminfoundation.co.uk

Butterfly Butties meets on Fridays, 12:30-2:30pm at Providence Street Community Centre, Kings Lynn. View the poster here.
