Sir Henry Bellingham MP Visits Right Tracks!

Right Tracks, our supported accommodation for homeless young people aged 16 – 24 years of age were delighted to receive a visit from  Sir Henry Bellingham MP, Member of Parliament for North West Norfolk at Christmas on the 22nd December. The visit  enabled Henry Bellingham MP to learn more about  The Benjamin Foundation’s Right Tracks service, our other supported accommodation work across Norfolk and Suffolk and the broader work of The Benjamin Foundation. Henry had the opportunity to meet with both staff team and young people  and took away from the visit a real understanding of how our supported accommodation services provide a life line to some of Norfolk’s most vulnerable young people who are homeless and in need of support at a traumatic time in their lives. Henry met with young people and was able to hear first hand from them what a significant impact Right Tracks makes to their lives. The visit also provided the opportunity to share with Henry the challenges around proposed funding cuts to housing related support services in Norfolk and for Henry to learn about ‘No Place Like Hope’, The Benjamin Foundations response to the Norfolk County Council public consultation around proposed cuts. The services we provide are ‘preventative’ at their very core and  any reductions in funding would have adverse consequences for young people and require more costly interventions in the longer term. Henry reinforced this sentiment at the Christmas visit;

“My recent visit to the Right Tracks housing scheme in railway Road, Kings Lynn gave me the chance to see for myself the inspirational and outstanding work that Right Tracks and The Benjamin Foundation are doing to help vulnerable youngsters in West Norfolk.. The flats in Railway Road are of a very high standard indeed, and I could see for myself the way in which this is enabling previously homeless youngsters to get their lives back on track.”

“I would imagine that for every £1 spent by The Benjamin Foundation they are at the same time saving other agencies over 10 times this amount – so I certainly support their campaign to ensure that their current funding is maintained.”
