Reepham and District Rotary Club supporting Young Carers
We are delighted to have been chosen by the Reepham and District Rotary Club as their Charity of the Year.
Meeting in a local church, which has been converted to a community meeting venue, on 5th September, The Benjamin Foundation's Marketing and Fundraising Manager, Chris Elliott was presented with a cheque for £1,000 by President, Trevor Nelson, from their fundraising to date.
The money raised will support the work we carry out with young carers, in particular helping us to provide extra breaks for young carers. Young carers are children and young people up to the age of 18 whose lives are affected by caring for someone in their family who has a long term illness or disability, mental health problem, learning disability or who misuses alcohol or drugs. The 2011 census suggests that in Norfolk there are approximately 2,000 young carers.
Our young carers' groups are held around the county and take place every three weeks during term-time. They provide a safe, supportive environment for young carers where they can let their hair down, make friends, play, socialise and forget their adult responsibilities for a while.
Thank you to the Reepham and District Rotary Club for their support.
