Free Vintage Bus Rides Raise £1,500

A free vintage bus ride which operated in Norwich during the lead up to Christmas has raised £1,500 to support the people we help.

Organised by Awayadays Routemaster and supported by Visit Norwich and Norwich BID, the tour offered visitors and shoppers the opportunity to see some of the city centre's festive lights and sights on an iconic 1965 London Transport Routemaster 64-seater double-decker bus.

The scheme, running over five days, proved to be so popular that extra tours were added to enable around 2,000 people to enjoy the experience and take the opportunity to hop on-hop off at a handful of stops for some Christmas shopping. Charity donations were invited, which raised £1,500.

David McMaster of Awayadays Routemaster said “It was a very busy few days and everyone loved riding on the bus. It brought back lots of memories for people who remembered the old Routemaster buses when they ran in London and indeed all over the country too and of course children love buses. Lots of people were taking photographs and we think it definitely added to the Christmas festivities in Norwich. It was a pleasure to be able to hand over £1,500 to a very worthy local charity.”

Chris Elliott, Marketing and Fundraising Manager, said “It’s fantastic that Awayadays chose The Benjamin Foundation as recipients for the money donated by their Christmas passengers; it will really help us to make a difference.”

Our thanks to Awayadays Routemaster, Visit Norwich, Norwich BID, the team of volunteers who ran the service and of course all the passengers who enjoyed their rides and donated to our charity.
